Lockdown has been really hard on our beauty industry, having been closed since the middle of March, and currently no date to return - there are girls (and some guys!) all over the country desperate to get their beauty treatments done. Whilst hairdressers are now allowed to return, for other disciplines within the sector still have a little while to wait. So what better time than this to zhoosh up your salon ready for your first customers.
Whether you’re a nail bar, make up lounge or tattoo studio - chic design is a must-have to show you mean business, and with a tonne of competition out there, it’s important to look the part.
Reception
Your reception area is the first thing people notice when they walk into your business. So what do you want them to think? Do you want it to feel soft and feminine, or edgy and industrial? One thing is for sure, you definitely want it to be a cool, Instagrammable location. Here are some ideas for how you could decorate your reception area.
Reception desks are a great way of showing a sneak peak of what’s to be expected throughout the rest of the salon. Some of the cool desks we’ve seen include using reclaimed wood, for a more organic feel, or mirrored tiles, for that disco glam look.
Another important feature for a reception is a statement clock. As we all know - timekeeping is vital, so it’s good to let customers know they’ve arrived on time! Have a look at our range of wall clocks, where you’ll find something to suit every style.
Waiting Area
You don’t want your customers to feel like they’re in a doctor’s surgery, so a few simple chairs just isn’t going to cut it! People love the whole experience of a salon, so wrap them in luxury! Gorgeous sofas are an absolute must.
Our Qatar range of furniture is perfect for those who want to create a space which is romantic but stylish. We have a three seater, two seater and an armchair in the range, forming a self contained area. Team this with a flower wall, and you’re nearly set! Have a look at our full range of sofas here.

Next on the list is a stunning coffee table. Coffee tables are essential - they set the tone for a relaxed atmosphere as well as providing a practical space for you to display magazines and colour charts, as well as those vital refreshments you’ll be serving.
Don’t be afraid to be bold with your style choices, good design is always appreciated, especially by a fashionable clientele. View our full range of coffee tables.
Studio
Ok, so the main part of the salon, what’s important? First of all - seating! You have to make sure your chairs are the comfiest around. Make them so relaxed they can’t wait to come back.
Nail techs, you’ll be looking for some nice low seating which will fit with your station, so what about our gorgeous Velvet Tub Chair in burnt orange? This would look super cool in a salon with dark navy walls and industrial lighting (like our Caged 4 Bulb Pendant Light or the Industrial Spotlight Tripod Lamp). Or if you want something more girly, our Stella Dining Chair is practical, comfortable and gorgeous.
MUAs, you’ll be looking for tall chairs, and we have just the thing for you. Our exclusive Katie Bar Stool is the one! Designed by salons for salons, the teal is such a luscious colour, and matched with the gold, it’s classic but modern. Have a look at all our seating and see what suits your salon.

Mirrors are the next item on the new salon shopping list, are you going to go for vintage or modern? And what shape? Round, square, rectangle? There’s loads of different options and only you’ll know what’s right for you and your salon, but head on over to our mirrors section because frankly, we have loads! The beautiful thing about refreshing your salon’s look is that you can think outside the box and do things that little bit differently - show off your brand and your own personal sense of style.
